subpages new look

Hi Kim, just to let you know what is in the pipe line. I changed the format of your new article Barnardius zonarius to the subpages look. I think this has a lot of potential to develop articles in a way that was not possible in wikipedia. You can read more at CZ:Subpages Chris Day (talk) 15:14, 21 August 2007 (CDT)

status

Kim, welcome, I recognize your name from wikipedia. I placed your author status on your user page, but have you considered applying for editor status? You surely must be qualified and we sure could use you! Follow the links to find out how to become an editor. --Matt Innis (Talk) 17:19, 21 August 2007 (CDT)

Matt, see the conversation here. Chris Day (talk) 17:37, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
Ahh, never mind ;-) Hey, we need very informed authors, too! I'll be glad to perform the constable portion of the approval process if you need me... --Matt Innis (Talk) 17:45, 21 August 2007 (CDT)

Hmm, interesting idea. Lets get Chris involved here and see if we might incorporate something like this into the ToApprove process so that authors might be able to request editors to look at the article. --Matt Innis (Talk) 09:19, 23 August 2007 (CDT)

not perfect

Hi Kim, It's not perfect, there are too few of us here, but it is growing steadily and surely and changing all the time. This is our project, ours collectively, and what is wrong we can put right. Won't be overnight, but the project will evolve as we stick with it. There are a number of things that need to change, but they will.Gareth Leng 03:22, 24 August 2007 (CDT)

Hey Kim, despite your concerns, I'm glad to see you are hanging around to try and get this place kick started. Your presense is welcome indeed. Chris Day (talk) 10:42, 13 September 2007 (CDT)

Userboxes

Kim, we aren't going to have userboxes on CZ. Can you explain what you're up to re these Wikipedia-sourced userbox templates? --Larry Sanger 16:35, 27 August 2007 (CDT)

To use around phylogenetic diagrams in biology articles. Kim van der Linde 16:36, 27 August 2007 (CDT)

OK, no problem. Please have a look at CZ:Subpages. Some of the things you're working on might actually be better placed on Tables (Catalogs) subpages. --Larry Sanger 16:41, 27 August 2007 (CDT)

Barnardius zonarius

Hi Kim. I placed an announcement at CZ:Approval Announcements to see if an editor in the house felt they could move it forward. This may just be one of those things where time and numbers is an issue for now. It also has an image now. I did find a nice map specifically dotting their numbers on the Oz mainland, that might be a nice addition. Also, am I correct to assume that you wrote that article at WP?  —Stephen Ewen (Talk) 17:32, 27 August 2007 (CDT)

If you have a map, it can be added to the Taxobox which would be ideal. It would be a good example article for a specific species in the tree of life. And yes, I wrote most of the WP article, which was a big mess before. Kim van der Linde 17:58, 27 August 2007 (CDT)

Approved!! Congrats..[1] --Matt Innis (Talk) 10:19, 14 September 2007 (CDT)

Definition

Hi Kim, re Template:Def Evolution, please see CZ:Definitions--we're looking for a definition on those "def template" pages. TIA --Larry Sanger 12:07, 6 September 2007 (CDT)

Thank you

Thank you for contributing to the anthropology articles - as we are a new workgroup all help is appreciated!

delete Template:Taxobox2

Hi Kim, if you put a speedydelete template on the talk page, I can delete it. --Matt Innis (Talk) 15:48, 11 September 2007 (CDT)

Dag Kim

status box

Your IUCN status box on Black and white ruffed lemur shows an "Image" error? (but looks great!).

Dog Studies - it's a boring slog for me, I'm afraid

Kim, can you see [[Talk:Dog > Draft#Proved beyond doubt]] and comment if need be? You would understand the studies much better than I would. Can't tell you how miserable I get slogging through scientific studies.... Aleta Curry 21:33, 20 September 2007 (CDT)

Blockheads

Hi, thanks for fixing that! What's strange, however, is that I *originally* had {subpages} on both the article and the talk and *not* {subpages9} -- I previewed them both and there were *some* tabs there, but they looked strange. So I put the "9" back in.... Hayford Peirce 13:25, 4 October 2007 (CDT)

Ah, I see what I did wrong -- I didn't put Blockheads into the "pagename" on the template. Geez! Thanks again.... Hayford Peirce 13:31, 4 October 2007 (CDT)

Status box on user page

Kim, does the article status box on your user page dynamically update by any chance? Does it automatically sort by status? --Robert W King 12:37, 11 October 2007 (CDT)

Yes, it automatically updates the staus per article, but I have to manually move the titles when they are changed. I am sure they can be made automatic, but I would have to think about how to do that and I rather spend thinking on other things.... Kim van der Linde 09:00, 12 October 2007 (CDT)

Bone tools

One of my students has put up the article Bone tools - as always, I would appreciate encouragment and feedback!

Cool, thanks. Teamwork!  :-) Stephen Ewen 13:45, 16 October 2007 (CDT)

Johannes Diderik

Hi Kim, could you approve my short article on Johannes Diderik van der Waals? I ask you because you are a fellow countryperson of J.D. van der Waals. Robert Tito (also Dutch) approved already van der Waals equation, so, to avoid inbreading, I like to ask now another Dutch person. --Paul Wormer 10:18, 17 October 2007 (CDT)

Welcome, new editor! We're very glad you've joined us. Here are pointers for a quick start. Also, when you get a chance, please read The Editor Role. You can look at Getting Started and our help system for other introductory pages. It is also important, for project-wide matters, to join the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list. Announcements are also available via Twitter. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forum is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any administrator for help, too. Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and thank you! We appreciate your willingness to share your expertise, and we hope to see your edits on Recent changes soon. --Larry Sanger 17:34, 18 October 2007 (CDT)

Great, glad to have you aboard Kim. Let's hope we can make a difference. Chris Day (talk) 19:03, 18 October 2007 (CDT)

Odinism

Kim, I had to remove the {{speedydelete}} from Odinism as I noticed that one of the editors is also a referenced author on the website[2]. I will have to ask User:Mark Mirabello if it is his information. I'll get back to you. --Matt Innis (Talk) 22:05, 18 October 2007 (CDT)

Don't bother. See the talk page. --Larry Sanger 22:07, 18 October 2007 (CDT)

That will teach me to skip the talk page! --Matt Innis (Talk) 22:15, 18 October 2007 (CDT)

Me too! The article sucks in many ways regardless. Kim van der Linde 22:16, 18 October 2007 (CDT)

Gefeliciteerd?

Groetjes,--Paul Wormer 03:54, 19 October 2007 (CDT)

JDvdW again

Hi Kim, I saw that you made a number of improvements in Johannes Diderik van der Waals. I fully agree with them, and thank you for that, except for one (which I don't know how to adapt). The term "van der Waals force" is very ambiguous, which I explained in Van der Waals force. Unfortunately not many textbook writers realize this, so when you open up one textbook, you find wich much aplomb a definition, which in another book, with as much aplomb, may be different. Now in "related articles" you write

A weak attractive force between atoms or nonpolar molecules caused by a temporary change in dipole moment arising from a brief shift of orbital electrons to one side of one atom or molecule, creating a similar shift in adjacent atoms or molecules

and this is indeed one of the possible definitions (it is a handwaving definition of the London dispersion force). But it is not the only possible definition. This text being hidden in a template, I cannot change it.--Paul Wormer 08:09, 19 October 2007 (CDT)

I added a number of references and changed the definition of van der Waals force (JDvdW did not know about "shifts in orbital electrons": electrons were discovered in the 1890s, electron orbits in 1911).--Paul Wormer 08:48, 19 October 2007 (CDT)

We did the same thing: you to the main article, I to the bibliography. :-) --Paul Wormer 08:51, 19 October 2007 (CDT)

Dr. Mirabello Calling

I left wikipedia because of the battles there. Must we do it again? --Mark Mirabello 15:07, 19 October 2007 (CDT)

Pandas

Quick check of current practice in the use of scientific and common names in the real world.

Looking at the title of articles listed in Biological abstracts , there are 150 instances of Giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca). 181 of just Giant pandas, 3 of just Ailuropoda melanoleuca, and zero of Ailuropoda melanoleuca (Giant Panda)

You mention a discussion of this--just where?DavidGoodman 09:47, 25 October 2007 (CDT)

At the biology work group talkpage where it should be as there it can be sen by anybody.Kim van der Linde 10:38, 25 October 2007 (CDT)
