Volans is a constellation in the southern sky which was first introduced by P. D. Keyser and added to the atlas "Uranometria" by Johann Bayer in 1603. It is surrounded by Carina, Pictor, Dorado, Mensa and Chamaeleon. Its name is Latin for 'flying fish', having being shortened from Piscis Volans.
