Added some fundamentals to the chemistry pages as it was not clear that contrary to physics chemistry deals only with the interactions between electrons or physical forces with electron(s).

Chemistry page

I added a sentence on the problem you requested. I had removed it because I consider that a description of bonding was probably best left to the "Bonding" section. Do you like it now? Pedro Silva 09:09, 10 November 2006 (CST)

bio

I received a masters in physical chemistry and biochemistry in 1982 from the free university of amsterdam and was awarded a doctorate at the leiden university in physical chemistry on a study on the dynamic behavior of partially charged polyelectrolytes in a bad solvent in the very diluted regime.

After that I did quite some research for privately held companies that didn't allow publication of the researches executed. Slowly moving away from chemictry toward process automation and interactions with databases I became more and more interested with the concept of active databasemanagement in laborotory situations - extending towards office automation and distributed computer problems.

Nowadays I lecture at the holland highschool (college) as well at the the hague highschool. Other projects involve knowledge management problems and semantics within computer sciences as well as cryptography problems.

Database question

Hi Rob,

On the notice board, you asked

In the Computer Science part only Relational Databases are mentioned, not flat file databases, record structure databases or Hierarchical databases. Is this on purpose?
Thanks for any answers, If not on purpose I can add these pages.
regards
Rob

Chemistry workgroup

I set up a preliminary Chemistry Workgroup and listed you there as an editor. Fred Salsbury 07:58, 21 November 2006 (CST)

Computer

See my answer on Talk:Computer; also, when signing messages, it's best to use 4 tildes (like this -> ~~~~ ), as that will turn into a link to your user page, and the date, which is the conentional signing form on the wiki. Thanks! JesseWeinstein 16:09, 24 November 2006 (CST)

the Status and the nature of wiki's

I wonder what we want the nature and status of CZ to be: neutral in all its content or colored based upon culture, politics or personal opinions. So far the latter leads only to more biased reproductions of facts - nearly all mingled with personal opinions and trying to bring personal thoughts as being factual. As an example: whether or not anyone is for the death penalty. That is an opinion, not something accepted in many countries. In most if not all european countries talking about the capital punishment is allowed - sure why not, but impossible to implement due to constitutions. And rightfully so - any culture claiming to be of high moral value should ask that same question: does it show any high level of ethics to maintain the capital punishment or does it show the old rule of an eye for an eye. As Mahatma Ghandi said: an eye for an eye makes the world blind.

Cycles Research

Robert, thanks for the welcome. My interest in joining citizendium is cycles research which is an interdisciplinary field covering all manner of subjects - economics, biology, geology, astronomy, physics, history, etc etc. Therefore it doesn't sit neatly in the scheme of subjects unless added in its own right (which I generally find people object to). Any suggestions are welcome. I consider myself an expert in cycles research with a smattering of knowledge in many other fields. I would like to be an Author and Editor regarding cycles subjects. If this is possible then I will start making some contributions. RayTomes 22:45, 29 January 2007 (CST)

Vandalism

I don't know if the Vandalism is over yet. For some reason, your message on my discussion page is not showing.--Ruth Ifcher 22:30, 30 January 2007 (CST) I would suggest that Nancy protect her page for the evening, if the vandalism is upsetting her. But, remind her to unprotect it tomorrow.--Ruth Ifcher 22:40, 30 January 2007 (CST)

I saw that your user page has been vandalised. I hope you get the problem under control. Stefan von Berg

Speedydelete template

Why did you delete the speedy delete template? We ultimately could use one so that people can tag pages and categories and all constables would have to do is check a category every once in a while. -- ZachPruckowski 22:50, 30 January 2007 (CST)

I, too, thought this was strange. Shanya Almafeta 22:51, 30 January 2007 (CST)

I guess it could have looked like I was asking for a delete with a page with the word delete in it. Heat of the moment with vandalism flying, it happens :-) I'll just remake it when I get a chance, no big deal -- ZachPruckowski 22:53, 30 January 2007 (CST)

Oh, the vandals had been using that template? That explains a lot. my bad then. Obviously I missed that. -- ZachPruckowski 22:58, 30 January 2007 (CST)

No, I was using that template to attempt to mark for the constables pages that had been created by the vandals. I was blanking and reverting as fast as I could, and leaving that in pages that (obviously) had no business being on Citizendium. The vandals never used that. Shanya Almafeta 23:00, 30 January 2007 (CST)
OK, then I'll remake it on that page then. -- ZachPruckowski 23:32, 30 January 2007 (CST)

Would it be beneficial if I made the Speedydelete template record who put it down? That way you could tell if a vandal was dropping it or if a counter-vandal was? --ZachPruckowski 23:51, 30 January 2007 (CST)

Sadly, it appears harder to force that than I'd like. -- ZachPruckowski 00:07, 31 January 2007 (CST)

The template code is here. But I'm in the middle of messing with it at the moment. -- ZachPruckowski 00:25, 31 January 2007 (CST)

I need to do my homework. As it now stands, I can't get it to identify the user who laid down the template automatically. I'll work on it tomorrow, but it's quarter to 2 in the morning, and I have 90 minutes of homework to do. -- ZachPruckowski 00:45, 31 January 2007 (CST)

Thanks

Thanks very much for helping when my user page was vandalised yesterday. One small quibble, though. After my user page was moved to an offensive title, someone restored the old content at the correct page, and then you deleted the page at the offensive title. However, this destroyed the edit history of that page (since the page you deleted was actually the original user page, just moved to a different location). Now, in this instance, it's not really a problem, because there's nothing of importance in the history. In other cases, though, it might be a problem, so I suggest making a general practice of moving the page back rather than deleting it. Cheers, Nat Krause 13:50, 31 January 2007 (CST)

No problem. I appreciate the need for alacrity.—Nat Krause 14:04, 1 February 2007 (CST)

Astronomy high priority items

The reason ESA, NASA, etc are not listed is because I am far from done! James F. Perry 15:48, 31 January 2007 (CST)

Please feel free to add to the listing of Astronomy high priority items! You really don't need my permission to do so, though. Long term, I may work on some of the Astronomy articles related in particular to the Renaissance period (Copernicus to Newton). I am one of the few living people who has actually read Kepler's Astronomia Nova - in Latin! Check out the WP article on Kepler's laws. James F. Perry 15:58, 2 February 2007 (CST)

Warning on blocking Users

Hi Rob,

The only problem I can think of, is that perhaps you blocked this user and did not "uncheck" the box, "Prevent account creation." If you leave this checked, anyone with the same IP address, can not set up a new account, like Jeff Cook. How do you fix this? Perhaps, you have to unblock him and then reblock him, with "prevent account creation" unchecked. My best guess... --Ruth Ifcher 21:28, 31 January 2007 (CST) Addenda: It looks like you may have done this with all your blocks. You do not want to do this to a User who created an account with a badly formed name, say. If you do not uncheck "Prevent account creation," all these new Users are banned undefinitely.See the list of blocked IP addresses and Usernames. All you blocks prevent account creation.

--Ruth Ifcher 21:38, 31 January 2007 (CST)

I hope you find a solution. You have done this to multiple users, with poorly formed User Names. If you can't undo it, perhaps you should contact a developer. --Ruth Ifcher 21:56, 31 January 2007 (CST)

CZ Developers

I am not a Citizendium developer. I am on the Exec board and relatively knowledgeable about technical issues though. I also handle some of the bug tracker functions. I want to eventually be a developer for CZ, but I have a lot of learning to do before I reach that point. -- ZachPruckowski (Talk) 19:19, 1 February 2007 (CST)

Thanks ...

for the welcome. I'm just trying to make my first contribution to the Industrial Revolution article, but I keep getting an edit conflict. The article had a active link, but there was no history and the content indicated that the database was having trouble resolving it. Any ideas on how to get this fixed? Neville English | Talk 09:46, 4 February 2007 (CST)

That did the job. Thanks for the quick response. Can I suggest that you edit your preferences to include a link to your talk page in your signature. You need to check 'Raw signatures' and put something like [[User:Robert Tito|Robert Tito]] | [[User talk:Robert Tito|Talk]] as your nickname. Neville English | Talk 11:45, 4 February 2007 (CST)
You need to remove the nowiki stuff - that stops the parser from interpreting the commands embedded in the tags! Neville English | Talk 11:58, 4 February 2007 (CST)

Thanks for welcoming me

Thank you for welcoming me to Citizendium Pilot. I didn't know precisely how to mention it to you, so I hope this is appropriate. I hope to edit some articles in the near future, though I'm not yet bold enough to start a new one. DaveO 11:17, 4 February 2007 (CST)

welcome

Hi Robert,

Thank you for your welcome (or was it a bot?). Don't think I'll be doing any editing as I don't much like the structure round here - policemen, etc. (although I note you are one). Also I'm confident enough of my own editing not to feel the need for people peering over my back "marking" me. I just joined to point out an error on the biology page - which I can't correct anyway. Good luck with your project. Cheers --Michael Johnson 18:37, 4 February 2007 (CST)

I'm glad it wasn't a bot...! Well I'm having too much fun on Wikipedia, if you ever get over that way look me up, I edit under my own name. And yes the gentleman who gave me a traffic ticket the other night definately was a Constable. Cheers, --Michael Johnson 19:01, 4 February 2007 (CST) (PS moved your comments to my talk page - if I ever do get involved here, I'd want to start right.)

Who is this page wiper?

Can we block his IP address? this is getting annoying just watching the recent changes. I can only imagine how upset you must be. Can we track his/her location geographically? -Tom Kelly (Talk) 00:25, 5 February 2007 (CST)

It's doable to work out a geography from an IP, but it's imprecise rather easy to fake. -- ZachPruckowski (Talk) 00:33, 5 February 2007 (CST)

I was blocked accidentally by Robert Tito. He said he unblocked me, but he hasn't, because I still can't edit from any IP address I use. Please fix?

Emails

Hi Robert. It would be useful to me to have your email. Also, I should have email haisch@citizendium.org which forwards to astro@calphysics.org. Are you able to set this up, and if not, who? Cheers, BernieBernard Haisch 18:41, 8 February 2007 (CST)

Hello

Thank your for the welcome message. I probably won't start editing for a while though; at the moment I'm just having a look at Citizendium, and I couldn't get past the main page without creating an account. But hopefully Citizendium will prove itself superior to Wikipedia, and I will only edit here. Ivan Kricancic 23:54, 8 February 2007 (CST)

Yes, thank you - I don't know what all that was about. Ivan Kricancic 01:00, 9 February 2007 (CST)

dont' delete

Hi Robert, what a pain, hopefully they'll grow up soon. For future reference, don't delete the users immediately. For example, your deletion here:

"(Deletion log); 00:27 . . Robert Tito (Talk | contribs) (deleted "User:Jared Brogan")"

took the RNA interference edit history with it too. It was a sophisated switch-a-roo which means the current RNA interference page has vandalism in the page and I cannot revert back to the last good version. I believe this might even be their strategy. The best strategy to beat these vandals is to block them but only delete once the moves have been undone. I noticed several other instance where the edit history and in some cases the content was deleted too.

Undeletion of the above edit will gives us back content and history for Vertebral subluxation"
  • (Deletion log); 00:46 . . Robert Tito (Talk | contribs) (deleted "User:Gary Schumann": vandalism)
Undeletion of the above edit will gives us back content and history for Homeopathy
Undeletion of the above edit will gives us back content and history for User:Jeffrey A. Morton

Finally:

  • (Deletion log); 01:08 . . Robert Tito (Talk | contribs) (deleted "User:▄▄█▀▀ █▬█ █ ▀█▀ ▄▄█▀▀ █▬█ █ ▀█▀ ▄▄█▀▀ █▬█ █ ▀█▀")
Undeletion of the above edit will gives you back the content and history for your own user page. I have already moved your talk page.

Note: for the last two deletions above you deleted this page twice within minutes (1:10 and 1:08) and in the process deleted the edit histories for two different pages. It is seems they are trying to cause so much confusion that we end up vandalising our own encyclopedia. I suppose we can coin the new phrase, the "fog of vandalism".

I have left the talk pages for homeopathy and Vertebral subluxation at the vandalised location for now until we can move them together with the article content. Chris Day (Talk) 02:19, 9 February 2007 (CST)

I was sad to see that after only moments of showing up my bio had been deleted by Robert after it had been vandalized by User:Frederica Cortéz. I'm still sorting out how to best clean it up, but hardly a good welcome. I hope things improve and this is just a Slashdot-related vandal spree. Steve Bonds 02:43, 9 February 2007 (CST)
