The '''Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP)''' is an Internet standard for mail user programs to manage incoming messages on a remote mail storage server.  It is similar to the older [[Post Office Protocol]], but allows much more flexibility in managing messages that are kept in the mailstore, rather than simply downloaded to the recipient's computer.
