A field at the intersection of mathematics and computer science, concerned with the security of information, typically contained in some message; standard goals of cryptographic systems are hiding the content of a message (confidentiality), ensuring that the message has not been changed (integrity), or that the apparent sender and the real sender coincide (authenticity).
