Images and copyright
This portal's policy requires images illustrating articles to be uploaded here.
People have created images which I would like to use in articles I'll be developing on important Indian rivers and connected personalities. Some of these are currently copyright asserted on a website I maintain.

- Unless the copyright holder chooses to join Citizendium and then releases their work to this project, you have to seek permission from them to use the material here, or ask them to release it under a licence that allows this. For copyrighted material, evidence of permission is placed on a subpage of the talk page, e.g. [[File talk:IMAGENAME.jpg/Permission]]. See also the third-party-uploading wizard. frustrated at wikipedia, deleted some great articles
I am frustrated at wikipedia, further clarifying why another online encyclopedia is needed.
They deleted two or three great martial art articles on excellent practioners who clearly deserved the articles. I cannot find a way to recover the deletions.

- vladimir vasiliev
These two practioners are cleearly top practioners in their field. Sensei Iha is the highest ranking Okinawan Karate teacher in North America. Vasiliev is the Western Hemisphere leader is a Russian martial art called systema.
These articles should try to be recovered and brought to citizendium.
Anyone have any tips?

- You can try going to [1] and entering the URL for an article you want (which you can easily reconstruct by analogy or get from a link). They may have it archived there. Otherwise you need to find a Wikipedia admin who's willing to dig it out for you. I think they've got a list of them somewhere, but I can't remember where. - I have recently been creating (here at CZ) a lot of new articles based on Michael Gilbert, the fairly prominent British crime writer. I originate them here and, after a certain point, port them over to WP. To my (pleased) astonishment, they have NOT been viciously edited by the crazed "vandals and cretins" of the days of yore. Maybe many of them have grown older or simply gone away. A couple of minor issues have come up but I have taken care of them. So, based on my own RECENT experience, I think there is some amount of intelligent reasonableness (or benign neglect) going on over there. In any case, I hope that you can resolve your own issues! - I suspect "gone away" may be a large part of it. WP's participation level has halved since the peak in 2007 (anyone got any statistics on us to compare?). Peter Jackson (talk) 08:18, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
- All the low-lying fruit has been picked, and an enormous bureaucracy is in place and thousands of bots seem to be doing constant editing (minor stuff), so the concrete has pretty well set. And they've actually put a picture of Larry next to Wales in the Wikipedia article! Hayford Peirce (talk) 15:41, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
