Brought up in rural England, Katy is the daughter of a social worker and a teacher, both of whom were very active for many years in the Labour Party. She took a BA (Hons) in Classical Civilisation from the University of Birmingham, and more recently she took a further course with the Open University, to improve the standard of her Ancient Greek.

She has had a lifelong interest in esoterica and alternative medicine, in which fields she has taken courses and, occassionally, worked. In the last few years, she has had a keen interest in scepticism. She feels this makes her perspective quite balanced on these issues.

She is also learning dressmaking and occassionally writes poetry. She works as an assistant in a pharmacy.

Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, our help system and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via Twitter. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forum is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any administrator for help, too. Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun! --Ruth Ifcher 23:35, 25 February 2007 (CST)
