Antiope [r]: A character from Greek mythology also known as Hippolyta who was an Amazon queen. It was the ninth labor of Heracles to fetch her belt or girdle. It is possible that she is the same queen who married Theseus. Source: Elizabeth Vandiver, Classics scholar, authority on Greek mythology and Greek tragedy, including the Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid, Homer, and Virgil. This definition is based on her course Classical Mythology for The Teaching Company.
