Regarding [http://en.citizendium.org/wiki?title=Arudou_Debito&diff=100417371&oldid=100392170 this edit]: Wikipedia also covers the debate in the ''Japan Times'' which commenced with Arudou Debito's column on the Japanese word ''[[gaijin]]''. Debito has made the point in his [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Debito_Arudou#Subject_of_BLP.27S_suggestions_for_proper_edits_of_article_.28Oct_20.2C_2008.29 commentary on one Wikipedia version] that if a focus on responses to his columns is desirable for an article about him, then it should also link to other columns and the subsequent responses - becoming unsustainable in the process. My own view is that while this is a danger, I decided to discuss this issue as it was a series of columns, not just one, and the ''Japan Times'' has said that the [http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/fl20080819zg.html response was substantial]. I do not see the necessity of linking to more of Debito's writings in the ''Japan Times'' unless it leads to a noteworthy response. First version
Arudou Debito has seen the first version of this biography and had no objections to it. He also kindly provided an image for us to use. John Stephenson 01:13, 30 September 2008 (CDT)
Name
Strictly speaking, the name of this article would be Debito Arudou in line with the usual policy of family name second. However, Debito is typically referred to as 'Debito' and that is the name of his website, debito.org, so I think an exception is warranted here. Furthermore, Debito told me off-wiki that he prefers to have his family name first. John Stephenson 01:13, 30 September 2008 (CDT)

Sections on responses to Arudou's 'Japan Times' columns
Regarding this edit: Wikipedia also covers the debate in the Japan Times which commenced with Arudou Debito's column on the Japanese word gaijin. Debito has made the point in his commentary on one Wikipedia version that if a focus on responses to his columns is desirable for an article about him, then it should also link to other columns and the subsequent responses - becoming unsustainable in the process. My own view is that while this is a danger, I decided to discuss this issue as it was a series of columns, not just one, and the Japan Times has said that the response was substantial. I do not see the necessity of linking to more of Debito's writings in the Japan Times unless it leads to a noteworthy response. John Stephenson 09:10, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
