Extramarital affair scandal
On 17 July 2023, Tan Chuan Jin and his mistress, Cheng Li Hui, resigned their party member and MP role due to involvement in extramarital affair scandal.[3] Prime Minister at the time, Lee Hsien Loong, claimed that he was first alerted to the extramarital affair relationship between Tan and Cheng after the 2020 General Election. Lee claimed that he is unsure when their relationship begin, and claimed that he had counselled them. Later in February 2023, Lee learnt that their relationship is still continuing and he claimed that he had accepted Tan's resignation on the same month, and claimed that he requested Tan to make sure the residents of Kembangan-Chai Chee and Marine Parade continued to be taken care of. Lee further claimed that "very recently" he came across information that "strongly suggested" that Tan and Cheng’s relationship had continued, and claimed he decided to to let Tan to leave "whether or not the arrangements were ready. It could not wait any longer."[4] Afterwhich, Tan also resigned his presidential role for Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC), adviser role to the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), and other roles at Mandai Park Holdings and the Centre for Fathering.[5]
Controversial remark on cardboard collector
In June 2015, Tan made a Facebook post commenting that some cardboard collector collects cardboard "as a form of exercise and activity rather than being cooped up at home". His post however draws criticism by the public.[6][7]
