Eumenides [r]: From Greek mythology, a euphemistic term for the Furies; it literally means "kindly ones". Source: Elizabeth Vandiver, Classics scholar, authority on Greek mythology and Greek tragedy, including the Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid, Homer, and Virgil.
