An epic poem written around the seventh century BCE by Homer which describes the 10-year journeys and adventures of the Greek hero Odysseus (hence the word Odyssey based on his name) who struggled against fate, gods and goddesses and fought to return home to his island of Ithaca to rejoin his faithful wife Penelope after fighting the Trojan War.
