Welcome Page

Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at CZ:Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) and the blog. Please also join the workgroup mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any constable for help, too. Me, for instance! Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun! D. Matt Innis 13:18, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Ed, and welcome. I was an English-as-a-foreign-language teacher for many years, so if you have any questions about the language, I'll be happy to help. I hope you enjoy writing for CZ. Ro Thorpe 13:21, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Thank you very much, and, Ro Thorpe, I am afraid I will need you! Ed Jussen 14:21, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
No problem, copyediting is what I mostly do here, but as you might expect there's much less need for it here than at Wikipedia. I notice you're translating WP's Heksenvervolging into English Witch-hunt! You might like to see my user page for articles on the English language - comments & criticisms most welcome (really). Ro Thorpe 16:24, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
I am sorry but I am afraid that I dont understand you. Do you mean that there is already an article about witch-hunt? Regards, Ed Jussen 17:36, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't mean to alarm you. I tried typing it in the box, without result, so, no, there isn't an article called Witch-hunt (or Witchhunt). As a matter of interest, were you involved in the writing of the Dutch Wikipedia article? Ro Thorpe 17:47, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Dear Ro Thorpe. I started the article Witch-hunt on the Dutch Wikipedia. I wrote it from the materialistic point od view. So now it is undertaken to add the feministic, neopaganistic and Wicca point of views. So I ran away.
I bet you did!
My first article is "finished". Would you please have a look at it? User:Ed Jussen/Lifecycle. Thank you very much! Is there a possibility to have it reviewed? Can everybody put his opinion into it? It is a big relief that there are no sock-puppets aroud! (I had my stories indeed!) Regards, Ed Jussen 19:04, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I'll certainly have a look at it. As CZ is still quite small, you can be sure that others will have noticed it, too. Yes, anyone can add to it, change it, comment on it, just like Wikipedia. Except for the sockpuppets, who are left at the gate. Stories, eh? How about that for your next article?! Ro Thorpe 19:28, 3 August 2010 (UTC) - I've just noticed, Lifecycle is still in your user space, so etiquette will prevent people from adding to it or changing it for now...
Right, it's a very nice, informative article, and right again, there are mistakes in the English - quite a lot of rewriting is needed in fact. I could do it on my own but that would take time. I think I'd prefer it if you uploaded it into mainspace and then many people could help out. But it's up to you: you may prefer to deal with one person at a time... Ro Thorpe 19:52, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Well, I uploaded it into the mainspace and I will just wait and see what is happening. Did I understand right that also in Citizendium opinions can be added? So for example a feminist might add that woman were altogether different around 1500 and worshipped Lilith, the first feminist and nobody will do something, because nobody knows whether this is wrong or right? I will wait and see. Regards, Ed Jussen 20:34, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
I think you'll be waiting a long time before you see anything like that here! No, our feminists are all certified sensible. Now I'll go and do some editing... Cheers, Ro Thorpe 21:06, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for your help! Regards, Ed Jussen 22:16, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Would you please tell us more about yourself?

Ed, welcome to Citizendium from a fellow engineer. Would you please tell us a bit more about yourself on your user page? It would be very helpful if you told us what country you are from and from what university did you obtain your engineering degree? Or any other degrees as well.

A bit about your work experience (or teaching experience, if any) would also help us get better acquainted. Best regards, Milton Beychok 21:59, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Hello Milton Beychok. Thank you for your welcome. Sorry that I overlooked your message so long. I'm Dutch and I did not obtain a degree from an university but from a C.A.T. I hope I write that right. After that schooling you may call yourself an engineer ing. (in German Ingenieur) while after a university you are ir. (in German Diplomingenieur). I'm a mechanical engineer. My last job was research and development of scaffolding (up to 90 meter). But, as I said, I really don't want to write articles about (mechanical) engineering. Regards, Ed Jussen 11:32, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

About Image:Lifetree.jpg

Ed, did you draw that Image:Lifetree.jpg yourself?? The Metadata section in that image file indicates that it was scanned or photographed with a digital camera. Would you please tell us what you scanned or photographed in order to get that image?? Thanks, Milton Beychok 22:26, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Hello, I draw this picture myself in the pogram "Paint" and "Photoshop". Nothing was photographed. Now this image is lost, so I will have to make it again and upload it. Regards, Ed Jussen 04:04, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
So I did. Fortunatly it did'nt take much time. From now on I will save my illustrations on my computer too: some of them took me a lot of work. Regards, Ed Jussen 04:28, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for the clarification, Ed. I created a credit line for the image, naming you as the author. Milton Beychok 06:17, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
