I'm an emeritus professor of history with a PhD in history of science from the University of Wisconsin and a BS in Physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology. My training was in physical science in the Middle Ages and I've since developed a special interest in the history of astronomy and archaeoastronomy.
I've written articles on medieval science, on Native American astronomy, and a book:
- Astronomies and Cultures in Early Medieval Europe, Cambridge Univ. Pr., 1998 ISBN 0-521-77852-2.
I'm currently finishing off a major research project on the scientific concepts and religious symbolism refflected in the orientation of medieval churches.
I guess I think of myself as a medievalist first and a historian of science second -- although some of my friends might put it the other way around.
My web page, including a pretty poor photo, is at http://www.as.wvu.edu/~scmcc/
A short version of my CV is at http://www.as.wvu.edu/%7Escmcc/mccluskeyvita.pdf
