I am currently working on Pleiades (http://pleiades.stoa.org/), an international research community dedicated to the study of ancient geography. We're building a novel geographic and bibliographic information system that encompasses the geographic knowledge of the Greek and Roman civilizations.

In the past, I have been a GIS analyst and programmer, and a consultant specializing in open source and open standards. I am active in open source GIS software communities as a developer, and speaker. I write regularly about GIS software, industry, community, and media on my blog, "import cartography" (http://zcologia.com/news, also serving as my home page).

I have a B.S. in Physics from the University of Utah, and a M.S. in Atmospheric Science from Colorado State University. I currently reside in Fort Collins, Colorado.
