Thank you for visiting my user page. I’m Renata J. Rafferty and I am a pioneer and 25-year veteran in the field of philanthropic counsel. I am also recognized as a top charity expert by the media and have been interviewed in INC., Kiplinger’s, Worth, Forbes, BusinessWeek, and The Chronicle of Philanthropy, among other publications, and am regularly sought for comment by major dailies such as The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal. I’ve also served as an on-air charity analyst for CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, Bloomberg and NPR.

I serve on the Advisory Board of the National Philanthropic Trust and on the Governance Committee of the International Association of Advisors in Philanthropy. For six years, I authored the nation’s only weekly column on the business of charity for a Gannett newspaper. I was the Founding Editor-in-Chief of Nonprofit Consulting Review and am a regular contributor to several general interest and field-specific publications. I hold an M.A. from Tufts University in dramatic theory and criticism, and was a Fulbright Scholar in dramaturgy at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland.

Over my career, I’ve assisted hundreds of charities and foundations in the U.S. and Eastern Europe. I’ve lectured at a number of the country’s top universities, and regularly address associations, conferences, and symposia on topics ranging from social change to personal philanthropy.

I am also the President of Rafferty Consulting Group Inc. based in Indian Wells, California, providing both short- and long-term counsel to generous families and corporations, and to the professionals who advise them.

My new book, Smart Generosity, with Foreword by Paul Newman, will be released in Spring 2008.
