Background

I was born April 20, 1973 in Rochester, NY, I'll say that my early years (prior to 1991) were without any notable events, not to mention I would probably just like to forget them anyhow... Most of my high school years were spent in isolation, a "geek" by majority rule, but I found my interests in horses, electronics, ham radio, and hiking/camping in the high peaks region of the Adirondacks kept me happy. In 1991, I graduated with a Regents Diploma from E.J. Wilson High, Spencerport, NY. I was accepted to Clarkson and Rochester Institute of Technology. I made the choice to attend RIT that fall.

My peers would say I "thoroughly enjoyed" the next year, doing everything but going to class... needless to say I failed out of RIT due to my poor academic status, hey I really never wanted to go to college anyhow... Knowing everything about the world, as any young man would, I decided to join the workforce... Through the various jobs over the next year, TOPS Floor Maintenance (janitor), Plastic Pellet Refill Technician (filling injection molding machine hopper), Harris RF Communications Assembly Line (parts insertion) and more the same, I learned a new lesson, the value of education.

In 1993 I enrolled at Monroe Community College in the AAS Computer Technology degree program. Early on I found myself bored with the core competencies of the program. In 1994, George Fazekas, the chair of the Computer Technology department, told me of an opportunity to work for the Equipment Management department of Monroe Community College. I was hired as a part-time professional by Dale Mallory, Director of Equipment Management.

The timing could not have been better; the department was making radical changes from general equipment management (everything from chalk, desks, to computers) to focusing on computers, networks, and smart classrooms. At the same time, key employees in other departments supporting computers and networks were leaving the college. With these changes I was able to learn extensive skills in the computer and network areas.

In 1994 I started a dba business Strategic Network Consulting(SNC) providing consulting with every aspect of computer and network systems including:

  • Contract system design and software programming for highly customized solutions
  • Computer hardware design and support
  • Custom software applications development and onsite training
  • Management of all projects and customer relations
  • Management of all phases of projects including: Planning, Definition, Analysis, Design, Implementation, and Training
  • Management of up to five programmers and technical documenters working as a virtual team across many locations
  • Providing architectural, user and service documentation.

In April 1995, I applied and was hired as a full-time employee with the position of Network Specialist. My responsibilities included:

  • Active monitoring and support of Multi-Vendor Ethernet backbone spanning several building at four sites
  • Remote administration of network devices for troubleshooting and optimization of Ethernet backbone
  • Lead project management for political projects and departments
  • Provide 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (24x7) technical support and direction for the college’s top two administrative
  • Create procedure and standard documents for adding devices to Ethernet backbone. Including naming conventions, typical setups, contact and support information etc
  • Researched, evaluated, and recommended all network related hardware and software components
  • Design and implementation team for college-wide migration from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to Microsoft Windows 2000 and Active Directory
  • Design and implementation team for college-wide Firewall
  • Develop and implement college wide Microsoft Exchange email system for 3000 administrative users and 14,000 unique students per year
  • Design, manage, and implement a new standard for the college’s network IP addresses, DNS naming conventions, DHCP, BOOTP and WINS implementation

In 2000, Monroe Community College was involved in helping the College of Science, Technology, and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) located in Port of Spain, Trinidad develop their nationwide network and computer systems.  I was hired as a consulted in April 2000 to evaluated and recommended solution for wide and local area networks for several sites for a countrywide education system, in addition, I proveide the technical interview and recommendation for a network administrator for the COSTAATT network.

In 2001, an opportunity to start working for NexPress a joint venture between Heidelberg and Eastman Kodak, in the research and development of Electrophotography process(EP) as a Network Engineer was appetizing enough for me to move forward in my career, my responsibilities included:

  • Research, selection and implementation of server class hardware for OEM integration into multiple products, including the maintenance of the supplied product lifecycles
  • Planning for product transitions based on supplier product lifecycles including end of life and obsolesces issues
  • Develop software to support Microsoft’s System Locked Pre-installation environment
  • Develop automated solution to help standardize operating system installations via network and physical media for multiple hardware types
  • Design and implementation of network and software solutions for customer network configurations
  • Create detailed network design and requirements documentation
  • Utilize design/debug tools to complete/validate network designs
  • Test and validate design against original requirements and specifications
  • Provide highest level of support internal/external customers during all project phases, including on-site support
  • Modify design and system behavior to improve performance of solutions
  • Interface with many tier one vendors such as IBM, Dell and Microsoft to develop product lifecycle and strategic plans.

In, 2004, Eastman Kodak bought out Heidelberg's 50-percent interst in NexPress.  More to come...
