I have an honours BA from the University of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in psychology with an emphasis in social psychology. My research interests are in implicit attitudes and automaticity. That is, broadly, I'm interested in when people act or espouse attitudes, but are actually unaware of their true reasons or motivations. To borrow a phrase from the late, great Paul Meehl: "I classify myself as a '60 percent Freudian'."
For the past two years, I have been working in a psychology research lab investigating motivated stereotyping and factors affecting satisfaction in friendships and romantic relationships. During this time, I've also been a lab lecturer in psychological data analysis and research methods. In September 2007, I will begin a PhD program in social psychology at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
My undergraduate minor was in religious studies. In this area, I'm interested in Protestant fundamentalism, especially as it affects public policy and attitudes toward issues such as science education, abortion, and same-sex marriage. As it intersects with psychology, I'm interested in the cognitive mechanisms and motivations that support religious belief.
