I am Alison Watkins, a writer and college teacher working in the US.

I earned an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia, then switched gears and earned an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Bard College in Annandale, New York. I earned a Ph.D. in Literature from Florida State University in 1992. My major was Poetry with a minor in Modern American Literature. My dissertation (The Visionary Ethics of W.B. Yeats) was written under the advisement of Dr. George Harper, and explored the ethical underpinnings and implications of Yeats's visionary writings.

Upon graduation, I began teaching art students at Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. Courses I have taught include Storytelling, Artists Among Poets, Introduction to Poetry, Poetry Workshop, Art and the Creative Process, Contemporary Literature, Introduction to Literature, Writing Studio, Freshmen Composition, Women’s Literature, Creativity in Conceptual Drawing, and Ethics and Popular Culture. Courses taught at Florida State University include Freshmen Composition, Short Story, Women in Literature, Advanced Essay Writing and Creative Writing.

My research has branched out from W.B. Yeats's work and creative writing to include an interest in outsider artists, post-humanist topics, and the intersection of visual and verbal media.

I currently serve as an Editorial Advisory Board Member on the Florida College English Association Journal, and for the past ten years have served on the Literature Organization and/or Individual Artist Grant Review Panel for the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs.

I'm an avid photographer, videographer and sailor.

I have a particular interest in interdisciplinary work crossing the arts and humanities.
