This article could be extended to provide the mathematical background of the pn-diode, for example. I'd guess that kind of detail is better left to separate articles on individual devices. An article on the pn-diode, for instance, could include its DC and AC small-signal analysis, its temperature dependence, the effect of various doping profiles, and describe its circuit applications.
