Superpower [r]: In international relations, the most powerful nation(s). During the cold war, the United States of America and Soviet Union were recognized superpowers. Since the breakup of the Soviet empire, some believe the U.S. is the only remaining superpower, or that China is rapidly rising to superpower status.
