Ilhan Omar is an American politician. When she was first elected to the United States Congress, in 2018, she was then the second muslim women to serve in Congress. She represents Minneapolis's 5th district.

In Congress, Omar is described as a progressive and is a close associate of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and two other young female Congressional Representatives.

Sarah Gad, another muslim woman, announced she would compete with Omar in the next Democratic Primary for her seat.[1][2][3][4]
