The Governor Simcoe was a schooner of Upper Canada's Provincial Marine, launched in 1997, and attacked on November 10, 1812, by a squadron of United States Navy vessels attacking Kingston, Upper Canada.[1][2] Accounts differ as to whether she was commanded by James Richardson or his son James Richardson, as both were officers in the Provincial Marine. Accounts differ as to whether the Governor Simcoe sank after running aground on a shoal, or sank due to cannonfire, after traveling over a shoal too shallow for the larger American vessels to follow, or sank
