Annapolis, Maryland is the capital of the U.S. state of Maryland], seaport, and the home of the United States Naval Academy. It is a small city located on the Chesapeak Bay with a population of 40,812 in the 2020 census. It is the capital of Maryland and is adjacent to the United States Naval Academy. The city lies 25 miles south of Baltimore, Maryland and 30 miles east of Washington, D.C..

An unqualified use of the word "Annapolis", outside of the town, often refers to the Naval Academy rather than the town.

The area is subject to flooding and, due to climate change, this problem is expected to worsen substantially in coming years.
