Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin (born October 7, 1952) is the President of Russia. He succeeded Boris Yeltsin on December 31, 1999. In the Soviet era he was a member of the KGB and in the 1990s he was a businessman. He is married to Lyudmila Putina, née Shkrebneva, and they have two daughters, Maria Putina and Yekaterina Putina.
