Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, our help system and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via Twitter. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forum is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any administrator for help, too. Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun!

Hi Tom,

Please, if you import articles here from Wikipedia, improve them in some significant way over the Wikipedia version. We don't simply want to mirror Wikipedia. See How to convert Wikipedia articles to Citizendium articles. --Larry Sanger 14:15, 29 March 2007 (CDT)

Hope that is what you needed. If not, contact me on my talk page and we'll get it right. Thanks for your hard work! --Matt Innis (Talk) 22:42, 29 March 2007 (CDT)

Images

Hi David. Thanks for your contributions to CZ! Please do me a huge favor and review the images you recently uploaded. One or more lack licensing information or has been uploaded from Wikimedia Commons and there is a problem with the author using a pseudonym. Please see Help:Images#Copyrights to determine the exact problem and kindly remedy this situation. Thanks! - Stephen Ewen 01:12, 2 April 2007 (CDT)

Telephone Newspaper

Just a note to say how impressed I am with Telephone Newspaper! And to ask about a recent edit, by Richard Jensen, which changed your claim that these began in the 1890's to "news and entertainment services which existed in the early 20th century primarily in a few European cities". Is this accurate? I don't know what Jensen's authority here is, but I wanted to check with you. As a writer with an interest in another early technology which is often misrepresented (menchanical television -- see my work on John Logie Baird) -- I wanted to make sure the approved version was fully accurate in this regard. Cheers, Russell Potter 19:52, 3 May 2007 (CDT)

The Théâtrophone began operation in 1890, the Telefon Hirmondó in 1893, and the Electrophone in 1895, so the concept was well established in the 1890s, and it's not clear to me why the date reference was changed. However, these systems did originate, and were primarily located, in Europe.Thomas H. White 01:34, 4 May 2007 (CDT)

Just a quick note to let you know that the Approval of Telephone newspaper is now official -- congratulations! This is a great article, and really presents a little-known chapter of communications history in a lively, informative, and well-illustrated manner! Russell Potter 17:07, 12 May 2007 (CDT)

Thanks for your efforts in getting the article approved. I'm glad to see that others think the topic is as interesting as I do.Thomas H. White 08:02, 13 May 2007 (CDT)

Coherer

Hi Thomas, just a question -- Coherer looks quite good, do you think it would be possibly ready for Approval nomination? I'd be interested to hear your view. Russell Potter 15:49, 16 June 2007 (CDT)

Although I'm generally happy with the article so far, it's still being refined — at a minimum it needs a better bibliography plus a sample circuit diagram, so it needs some work before it is ready. Thanks for checking...Thomas H. White 17:55, 16 June 2007 (CDT)
OK, do let me know at any time when you feel it's ready to go! Cheers, Russell Potter 20:35, 16 June 2007 (CDT)

Crystal Palace draft

Hi Thomas. I saw your recent edits to Crystal Palace draft. I have to say, I do not think that they "improve the narrative flow." The tone and style of the entry is significantly altered, I feel.

Of course, as the author, I may be unduly defensive! -- but these edits are so significant that I don't think they should be done, at a sweep, without some discussion by all interested parties. So, if you would be willing, I would be grateful if you would consider undoing this edit, and comment it out to the Talk page, with some statement of the rationale for the changes. If it turns out there is a consensus that these edits are all improvements, they can always be done then.

thanks, Russell Potter 07:30, 21 June 2007 (CDT)

Thanks, I appreciate your being willing to do that. I look forward to being part of the conversation over at Talk:Crystal_Palace/Draft. Russell Potter 08:57, 21 June 2007 (CDT)
