Dr. John Thompson is an Associate Professor at Buffalo State College where he coordinates the graduate Educational Computing graduate program - http://www.buffalostate.edu/depts/edcomputing. He also operates his own educational consulting business, Global Learning Institute, Inc. Dr. Thompson teaches nearly all his graduate courses 100% online, having taught close to 70 online courses. His current research interests include asynchronous online discussions, Web 2.0, and 1:1 computer initiatives. Major current events include chairing educational technology conferences with his graduate students. The 2007 conference site is at http://www.buffalostate.edu/depts/edcomputing/etc07/. Earlier in 2007, he chaired the inaugural Educational Technology Research Symposium for the Texas Computer Education Association - http://www.tcea.org/symposium/. His previous career experience prior to working in higher education on a full-time basis included working in K-12 schools as a teacher and administrator (including school superintendent), functioning as director of training for two state governments, and directing a university-based computer training organization. Dr. Thompson's PhD in Education Administration researched connections between adult education principles and writers of computer documentation.
