I recently graduated from [http://www.carleton.edu/ Carleton College] where I majored in Sociology/Anthropology with a concentration in Latin American Studies.  I'll be at the [http://www.uchicago.edu/ University of Chicago] this fall for a master's degree program in Latin American Studies and plan to enroll in a doctoral program in anthropology following the receipt of the M.A.  In anthropology and the social sciences in general, I'm very interested in Mesoamerica past and present and I have concentrated much of my course work on indigenous rights and images of indigeneity in North America.  To get an idea of my academic interests, check out one of my recent papers: [http://people.carleton.edu/~quickj/papers/Becoming_Maya.pdf here]. (This is likely what I will be studying at Chicago.)

In other areas, I am very involved in the Boy Scouts - I started as a Tiger Cub 15 years ago and am now an adult leader.  I love to travel and have done so at every opportunity.  I also love to "find things" with my mother - we often go fossil hunting and take excursions to look for rocks, mushrooms, four leaf clovers, or anything else that one might find on (or in) the ground.

I won't be on the wiki very often this summer, having lost my high speed internet connection and access to a university library while I'm in between schools.  I ''will'' check in once a day or so to see what's going on, but I might take a little while to get back to you if you leave me a message.  I have a couple of projects that I'll be working on off-line and then uploading once they're somewhat developed.

Obviously, my eventual goal for Citizendium is to upload all of my knowledge (or at least the non-primary research parts).  The following is my progress so far:
===Approved Articles===
Articles for which I was a major contributor that have been approved.
===Developed Pages===
These are pages on which I have done significant work where I feel like my contributions are pretty much complete.  They probably still need some clean up and some input from others.

==My Style==
I'm a cultural anthropologist with expertise in Latin America, particularly the Andean region of South America. I hold a PhD in anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master's degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from the University of Chicago. These days, I teach anthropology in the College of General Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
A guide to what others will have to deal with if they collaborate with me.
*My factual writing isn't all that I would like.  I can be very compelling when I push a thesis, but I tend to have trouble with making encyclopedic writing not-boring.
*I prefer books for my sources.  I find books easier to read than computer screens, so I tend to rely more heavily on printed resources.  In some cases, others will be compelled to find internet resources that accomplish the same things that my book provide. I encourage this.
*I like to have all of the details when I write or learn something. This means that my contributions might tend toward the long side, but I feel that nuance and detail adds to the quality and comprehensibility of learning resources.  This also means that I will probably be critical of others' work; I will try to be constructive in my criticism as much as possible.

The bulk of my contributions to Citizendium have been in the social sciences.  I mostly focus on articles related to my academic pursuits, which involve Latin America past and present, indigeneity in the Americas, and global tourism.
