I have worked for Buena Vista University at their Marshalltown campus teaching Introduction to Astronomy for nine years.

I was a TA for a few History courses at Iowa State University. I was a lecturer for two classes at Iowa State University: History of Modern Science and History of Modern Popular Culture. My other areas of expertise include history of astronomy; the American War of 1812; American history; European history, especially history of the Soviet Union; history of scientific instruments; history of technology; history of popular culture; and history of science education. In 1998 Iowa State University's History Department awarded my paper Gunpowder Artillery and the Demise of the Medieval Castle best graduate paper of the year.

I published entries in the first edition of the Biographical Encyclopedia of Astronomy. For the second edition of the same, an additional entry is forthcoming.

Other than presenting at academic conferences I have also presented at the Iowa Conservation and Preservation Consortium. I have specialized skills and have taught sessions on various topics of historic preservation including the care and repair of documents and photographs, care of historic textiles, and the care and repair of historic furniture. I am certified in historic window restoration and historic paint analysis.

I am also accomplished in many areas of public history including oral history collection, historic site maintenance, public education, exhibit design and construction, managing traveling exhibits, grant writing, and all aspects of museum administration.

I was an invited presenter for an audience of professional and volunteer historic site interpreters on the topic of designing and fabricating historically accurate clothing of the War of 1812 period.

I have been invited to present to general audiences in my local area on a variety of topics of historical interest.
