I received the A.B. from Harvard (1958), and the M.D. from the University of Kansas (1962). Now retired, I was a specialist in Pathology, active in practice, 1967-2003. During my medical career I was a member of the Board of Editors of three peer-reviewed specialty medical journals: American Journal of Clinical Pathology, Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Clinica Chimica Acta (Elsevier, Amsterdam). I was an editor of the book, Laboratory Test Handbook, 5th edition (published 2001), a 1031-page publication of Lexi-Comp, Inc. I have written about a dozen articles that have appeared in peer-reviewed journals.

My occupation was in private practice, and I was active on the volunteer (clinical) faculty of the University of Kansas, 1988-present. Since 1989 I have had the rank of Clinical Professor of Pathology. I was a Trustee of the American Board of Pathology (the organization that certifies specialists in Pathology), 1993-2004, and was President of the Board in 1999.

My interests outside of medicine include: baseball; history of science and medicine; evolutionary biology and music.
