Dr. Dániel Z. Kádár is a Hungarian expert in historical Chinese communication studies. He received his Ph.D. in the field of traditional Chinese honorific language. He is the head of the Department of Chinese Language and Culture of the Budapest Buddhist University, and has co-directed several research projects hosted by the Research Institute for Linguistics, Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His research interests include traditional Chinese politeness and impoliteness, historical Chinese institutional discourses, vocative theories, and Chinese sociolinguistics. He has authored several books, including It’s the Dragon’s Turn – Chinese Institutional Discourses (co-authored with Professor Hao Sun, to be published in Berne by Peter Lang in 2007), and Terms of (Im)Politeness – A Study of the Communicational Properties of Traditional Chinese (Im)Polite Address Terms (to be published in Budapest by the Eötvös Loránd University in 2007), and has published many English and Chinese research papers in international journals and edited volumes, such as “On Historical Chinese Apology and Its Strategic Application” (Journal of Politeness Research, III, 1, pp. 125-150, 2007).
