The U.S. Mission to Iraq includes the Embassy and civilian agencies, but does not, at the present time, control Multi-National Force-Iraq, the senior US military headquarters there. The current Ambassador is Christopher R. Hill.
Full diplomatic relations were restored after the transition to Iraqi sovereignty. The Ambassadors have been:
- John Negroponte
- Zalmay Khalizad
- Ryan Crocker (2007-2009)
