In what I've written so far (and in what I intend to write) I've drawn heavily on my own article on "Gods" in H. James Birx [ed.] Encyclopedia of Anthropology Vol. 3 (Thousand Oaks: Sage Publications, 2006) ISBN 0-7619-3029-9 .
