Kick off

Right, here is a starter for 10 (ref to a UK game show, for the benefit of US readers) - any idea why the link is still red on the front page?

Much as my heart says "apply to be an editor" my head says "you've got a business to run you idiot". I think geography needs at least one editor from each of Europe and the US, since the discipline followed significantly different paths on each side of the Atlantic, especially in the post-War years. Hi Ian, it's an annoying (and known) bug. The colors of links don't change on a page until that page is changed. An annoying little workaround is to add a space (" ") to the page, which will make the link colors change appropriately.

I actually am thinking that we need to replace "Geography" as a title of the top-level category with "Countries"--i.e., a list of countries of the world. Wikipedia has (or had) an article called countries of the world. --Larry Sanger 17:41, 21 January 2007 (CST)

I'd argue for a different approach: draw a clear distinction between "geography as description" (where starting at continents and working down is a common sense hierarchy) and "geography as analytical approach/ academic discipline", where the key categorisation is between physical geography (the natural environment) and human geography (the human environment) wth various attempts at synthesising the two.
To draw an analogy from an entirely different realm, would you start a workgroup on rocket science by listing the Apollo moonshots? I would argue for "geography as description" to be relabelled The Citizendium Gazetteer (something, incidentally, that every single editor and author would be qualified to contribute to in some small way since we all come form somewhere and all live somewhere). Anthropology workgroup

Hello all, I am an editor in Anthropology and we in the workgroup are attempting to build this area . As many areas of anthropology overlap with Geography (fossil and archeological sites, culture and its locations, well known explorers etc. to name just a few), I feel that members of your group could assist us enormously in building the Anthropology heading as well as creating fertile cross links between our allied disciplines. I would appreciate if your editors and authors would take a few moments to visit our workgroup page where we are compiling a list of priority topics and sub-headings. I would imagine that many of you might find you already have ideas, stubs or even developed articles which you could insert into our wish list and make this aspect of CZ grow more rapidly and with a sound Geographical base. Please feel free to write/edit away! Many thanks in advance! CZ:Anthropology Workgroup
