:Off the top of my head, I think that cuisine, particularly as it is being broken down into various nationalities, is clearly distinct from cooking. Both American and French cuisines, for instance, use broiling as a cooking technique. Ditto with all the other sub-categories that are listed in cooking right now. Food can have numerous sub-categories, such as nutrition, storage, production, health issues, etc. etc. And we have to do something about Beverages -- do wine, beer, cocktails, soft drinks, milk, etc., fit in here, or where? I would have you think through what top-level articles we'll have on this general theme. Will we distinguish cuisine from cooking and both from food? And will we have some other general food-related articles? --Larry Sanger 17:06, 9 September 2007 (CDT)

Off the top of my head, I think that cuisine, particularly as it is being broken down into various nationalities, is clearly distinct from cooking. And do we have a Catalog of wines, for instance, which could end up with *thousands* of entries. Food for thought.... Hayford Peirce 17:16, 9 September 2007 (CDT)
To add to your list perhaps: Ingredients - that is food that is used to make other food; Nutrition - should be a key part of food science; Hygiene - Is important. In the UK, a course on Hygiene is compulsory for all food preparation workers. there may be a few others.
However, there seems to be some confusion as to the meaning of 'top level article'. cuisine is a top level article, but that doesn't mean everything the mentions cuisine will be a subpage of cuisine. We have to be careful, subpage clusters are not sudo categories. In using the words 'top level article', I think Larry means 'general subject articles' and 'important articles'. I don't think he meant that all other articles must be physically positioned under them.
We will have an article, which I am working on, entitled chinese cuisine which will deal with all the particulars of Chinese cooking and eating including all the customs and traditions associated with Chinese cuisine. There would be a subpage at Chinese cuisine/Catelogs which would contain the current Catelog of Chinese cuisine article. Chinese cuisine is not a subpage of cuisine, it is an article in it's own right. I am similarly going to do other cuisine's as I am able to do so. The introduction to the Catalog of Italian cuisine could be a nucleus for beginning an article at Italian cuisine. Derek Harkness 19:52, 10 September 2007 (CDT)
