A Standartenfuhrer was a rank in the Nazi SS, approximately equivalent to colonel. The term derives fron Standarte, a formation roughly equivalent to a regiment in the SS and SA.

The next lower rank was Obersturmbannfuhrer. Oberfuhrer and Brigadefuhrer are above it; Oberfuhrer was considered a "senior colonel" grade while Brigadefuhrer was the first general officer grade.
