Romania—rarely written Rumania, Roumania—(Romanian: România) is a country in Southeastern Europe. It shares borders with Hungary and Serbia to the west, Ukraine and the Moldova to the northeast, Bulgaria to the south, and has a sea coast along the Black Sea on the east. Its capital and largest city is Bucharest. The country joined the European Union on January 1, 2007.
