Roald Amundsen is a Norwegian polar explorer, who led the first expedition that traversed the Northwest Passage in a converted fishing vessel called Gjoa, as well as leading the first expedition to reach the South Pole. Amundsen lived in Greenland, and had learned Polar survival skills from the Inuit, which he used on his expeditions.
