Nicholas William Peter Clegg (January 7, 1967–) is the current leader of the Liberal Democrats, the third largest political party in the United Kingdom, the MP for Sheffield Hallam and a member of the Privy Council. He is also the Deputy Prime Minister as part of the coalition with the minority Conservative Party with prime minister David Cameron.

Clegg has been a member of the House of Commons since 2005, and served as a Member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2004. Clegg made a written contribution to the 2004 Orange Book which sought to move the Liberal Democrats away from social democracy and more towards free market liberalism.
