New York Yankees
The New York Yankees are a Major League Baseball team based in New York, New York. The team was founded in 1903 as the New York Highlanders in the American League. [1] [2] [3]
The team has earlier roots as the "Baltimore Orioles," one of the 1901 inaugural teams of the American League not associated with the current Baltimore Orioles franchise. The original Baltimore Orioles went defunct following the 1902 season, with the League then taking control and subsequently selling it to New York-based ownership. The new franchise began play as the New York Highlanders (later the Yankees) in 1903. [4]

The team has had a total of 27 championship-winning seasons since the beginning of major-league baseball's modern World Series in 1903. This is the most world series championships won by any team in Major League Baseball. They won the World Series in the following years. [5]
