Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab (c. 1702–c. 1791) was the founder of Wahhabism, a socially conservative branch of Sunni Islam. In 1744, he formed a key alliance with Muhammad ibn Saud, the founder of the House of Saud, which rules Saudi Arabia.
