Mohamed Morsi (born 8th August 1951) was the President of Egypt from 24th June 2012 until 3rd July 2013, when he was ousted in a military coup. He was the first President of Egypt to be democratically elected following the 30-year rule of Hosni Mubarak, but his presidency was marked by widespread protests.[1] He was the Chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party.

Morsi, an Islamist, was educated in the United States before becoming a Member of Parliament in the People's Assembly of Egypt from 2000 to 2005.[2]
