The Kansas City Royals are a Major League Baseball team based in Kansas City, Missouri. The team was founded in 1969 as an expansion team in the American League. [1]

Championships

The team has had a total of two championship-winning seasons in the modern era (1901 and later) of major-league baseball, winning the World Series in 1985 and 2015. They were also American League champions, but lost in the World Series, 2 times, in 1980 and 2014. [2]

Locations

The team has been based in Kansas City since its inception in 1969. They have played their home games at the following stadiums.[3]

  • 1969-1972: Municipal Stadium
  • 1973-present: Royals Stadium, renamed Kaufman Stadium on July 2, 1993

Retired Numbers

The following uniform numbers are retired in that players, managers, and coaches of the team will no longer use them.[4]

  • 10 Dick Howser
  • 20 Frank White
  • 42 Jackie Robinson (retired across major league baseball)
