John F. Campbell is a major general in the United States Army, who commands the 101st Airborne Division. His prior assignment was as Deputy Director, Regional Operations, J-3, on the Joint Staff (U.S.). During the Surge campaign in the Iraq War, he was the primary U.S. operational commander in Baghdad, as Deputy Commanding General (Maneuver), 1st Cavalry Division/and Deputy Commanding General (Maneuver), Multi-National Division-Baghdad.
