Johannes Popitz [r]: (1884-1945) Attorney and financial expert in the Weimar Republic and Third Reich; member of the German Resistance working with Hans Oster in the Abwehr; drafted "Provisional Basic Law of the State" for a post-coup Germany in 1938-1939; executed for participating in the 1944 assassination attempt against Hitler, after which he was to be Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs; tried to recruit Heinrich Himmler to conspiracy [e]
