Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. (born 20 November 1942) is an American politician, currently serving as the senior Senator from Delaware. He seeked nomination from the Democratic Party for the 2008 presidential election but dropped out on 3 January 2008 after the Iowa caucus. Biden was married to Neilia (neé Hunter) until her death in a car accident in 1972. He also ran as a Democratic presidential candidate for the 1988 presidential election, but lost to Michael Dukakis.
