James Augustine Aloysius Joyce (1882-1941) was an Irish novelist who portrayed life in Ireland in Dubliners; also wrote Ulysses, often regarded as one of the 20th century's greatest English language novels. His most experimental and "difficult" novel is Finnegan's Wake.
