The Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) is an Internet standard for mail user programs to manage incoming messages on a remote mail storage server. It is similar to the older Post Office Protocol, but allows much more flexibility in managing messages that are kept in the mailstore, rather than simply downloaded to the recipient's computer.
