In the U.S. House of Representatives, the House Ways and Means Committee is responsible for writing legislation to raise taxes. The oldest committee of the United States Congress, its jurisdiction comes from Article I, Section VII of the U.S. Constitution which declares, "All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives."

The Acting Chairman is Sander Levin and the Ranking Minority Member is Dave Camp, both of Michigan.
