A Home Run is scored in the game of baseball when a batter rounds all the bases to get to home plate and score a run. Most home runs occur when a batter strikes the ball out of the field of play. However, it is also possible to score an "inside the park" home run when the ball doesn't leave the field of play but the batter is quick enough to get round all the bases and scores a run before the defending team can throw the ball back to home plate. If the bases are loaded when the batter hits the home run, four runs are scored and this is referred to as a grand slam.
